I can only think of two things. First is root, or someone as root, accidentally or purposefully changed the permissions. Second is something (ie: script) run as root (ie: during installation) did the changing. Perhaps you may also want to verify that your adduser (and or adduser.local) script(s) is/are correct. > anyway, i have shared the /home directory with another name so i could > have this one user manipulate files within the /home folders so i > wouldn't be messing the settings for the homes share. Huh??? Why are you sharing the toplevel /home directory? Use the special Samba share type that automatically exports home directories as "[user]". > also, does anybody know about icq (or other irc channels) we could > instantly get in touch with if we have any inquiries about linux things? > that would be really really helpful aside from the mailing list PLUG IS NOT TECHNICAL SUPPORT. PLUG IS NOT TECHNICAL SUPPORT. And again, for emphasis: PLUG IS NOT TECHNICAL SUPPORT. And neither are the volunteers in the PH Linux Newbie forum. WE ARE A COMMUNITY! So please don't go asking about some way to get faster help. It irks me. Such demands. But still to answer your question: there's #PLUG @ UPCM.net. And in case this doesn't "click", it's on IRC. A word of warning, though: the people who hang out in #PLUG @ UPCM.net ARE NOT TECHNICAL SUPPORT PERSONNEL. When you ask, it's a favor. If nobody answers, it's nobody's fault (or maybe yours, at most). Alternatively you might be able to find a lot of kind souls in #linuxnewbie (?) @ Undernet. The very kind Sandra Jean Chua hangs out there and AFAIK is an operator. :) --> Jijo -- Federico Sevilla III :: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Network Administrator :: The Leather Collection, Inc.
