In my experience, RPM makes life more complicated than they need to be. I found that out when I was trying to recompile a new version of XFree86 and RPM's dependency checking wouldn't work properly. If you're going to stick with RedHat RPMs it's probably fine, but if you're going to compile your own packages, the 'automated' dependency detection actually makes things harder. As for me, I'll take .tgz's any day of the week and manage dependencies myself thank you. RedHat (and derivatives) is the "MS of Linux". That's not necessarily a bad thing, but for me, if you're gonna make me use RedHat then I'll just stick to Win2K Pro (which I love very much by the way). Cheers!! _ Philippine Linux Users Group.
