Just take a look at the demo and screenshots found at www.phorum.org.  
It is that easy to manage a Phorum system. And take a look at
the www.phorum.org/links.php,  browse at some Phorum sites and judge
for yourself.

You may have some difficulty in the deploying part (need to install and 
configure MySQL+PHP) but the pain is worth the gain.
