> One OS to rule them all, > One OS to find them, > One OS to bring them all, > And in the darkness bind them."
Received this about two days ago from my friend who works at SVI. Joked her "Sabi ko na nga ba may pagka-demonic cult ang Microsoft! IN DARKNESS BIND THEM ALL!" (It beats the awesome liners in my current affair with the SNES game Tales of Phantasia!). please give these liners some reactions before we continue this thread or not: RELIABILITY IS THE FOUNDATION OF SECURITY[1] Our 1995 study found that applications based on open source had better reliability than those of the commercial vendors.[2] [1] S. Garfinkel and G. Spafford, Practical UNIX & Internet Security, OReilly & Associates, 1996. [2] J. Forrester and B. Miller, An Empirical Study of the Robustness of Windows NT Applications Using Random Testing, Computer Sciences Department, University of Wisconsin, Madison, WI 53706-1685, July 27, 2000 Now, the real world complication - even in public or personal relations, reliability can only be assessed fully after time and experience. Same goes with software (and many have tales and experiences to share with this). So Microsoft head honchos better shut up about reliability -- that comes over time. It's less than three months after Windows XP has been released, so the need for more time to assess the alleged "more reliable" claim. Anyway, sabi naman ni Andy, VIRTUALLY eh. HA HA HA HA HA! Linux and free software may not be perfect, but they're more reliable. Maybe Windows XP would be indeed be reliable - when pigs can fly (not the Montgomery Burns' version of the "flying" pig, OK?) I hope that there won't be another serious issue like the UPNP which would doom the phrase "more reliable" in Windows XP. Another big bug like that and WinXP would really be one big joke when it comes to reliability (Microsoft's long-term strategy seems to be to rule the world with a gameboy in every pocket, running XP). He he he... Best we halt this thread for the meanwhile. Like Einstein said in Red Alert, TIME WILL TELL. SOONER OR LATER, TIME WILL TELL. By that time, the winner can tell right at the face that the platform he endorses is indeed RELIABLE. Paolo Falcone __________________________________ www.edsamail.com _ Philippine Linux Users Group.
