It's not about 'bashing' Linux or Windows (although sometimes
it's fun to do so - as long as it's true), it's about trying
to objectively compare their advantages or disadvantages *without
blinders on*. Apparently, some Linux fan(atics) just can't bear
to hear Windoze coming out on top in a comparison. Somehow, their
ego is intimately tied to the OS they're using.

BWAHAHAHAHAHA! Understatement of the year!!! Please, don't take any
offense, it's just I'm amazed at the amount of chutzpah in the statement!
"You *cannot deny the fact* that there are applications that run in Windows
that do not have an equivalent for Linux..." :-) :-) :-) There is a WHOLE
DOGGONED CARTLOAD ^!@#!!$!% of apps that run in Windows that do not have
an equivalent for Linux. You want me to make a list?? :-)
But enough of this already... I'm all for more apps becoming available
for Linux. I just think that there's still a loooooong way to go
before Linux catches up in this area.
Perhaps, if we properly analyze the true situation of Linux today -
many, many, many great advances ('exotic' kernel improvements like
real-time and pre-emptible patches; bleeding-edge concept
filesystems like ReiserFS; a VM subsystem that can finally hold a
candle to BSD's), but at the same time lagging in critical areas
(DRIVERS!!!; APPS!!!; LESS STANDARDS FRAGMENTATION - but please
don't make them as byzantine as MS') we'd be in a better situation
to adapt them to different needs. Then who knows, Linux may
actually be able to displace Windows as the "#1 OS in the world"(*).
(*) in terms of machines running it.
Linux has to DESERVE this title, not because a bunch of frothing
mouth zealots (or maybe it's just a handful with alternicks?) say
it has to be so. Then again, with the Chinese government refusing
to standardize on Windows and adopting Linux instead, we might not
even have to wait for any additional improvements. A couple hundred
million additional Linux machines would definitely dent MS worldwide
market share :-) :-) :-).
Big question though: will Chinese users still opt to use pirated
XP instead of Linux? MS' internationalization support is very good.
Can Red Flag Linux measure up? Then again maybe the Chinese
government can just execute everyone who doesn't use the government
mandated OS and the zealots here would be very happy indeed living
over there. HAR HAR HAR HAR HAR.
