I'm not an officer - not even 'somebody' (read: someone with
influence) here in PLUG - just a nobody - but IMHO and with
all due respect I don't think Andy Sy should be kicked-out
or ban from the mailing list. His posts were about the
technically superior capabilities of Windows 2K/XP (at least
that's what he believes in) - but he also did acknowledge
the fact that Linux was superior in some areas too.
Andy's 'faults':
1. He came on 'too strong' (malakas ang dating - arrogante
ang asta) - at least to some people - he rubbed some
people the wrong way. It might be unintentional on
his part. Me, I didn't take any offense with his
posts.
2. He called people names - and the ones he called names
were respected people in the Phil. Linux community.
He called a Linux pioneer an idiot. Andy - bad, you
shouldn't have done that :(
If the moderators felt that he was being off-topic or
was being rude to some people here - the moderators should
have politely told him so in private e-mail. Besides, people
were responding to his posts - so he replied.
I'm subscribed to other mailing lists (PH-Cyberview, PH-ISP,
et.) and I've not seen posts from Andy Sy - maybe he's a
newbie to mailing lists and as such does not know the proper
behavior in this kinds of forums (netiquette).
Guys, I've been a newbie too - I remember around 1996 or so,
I made my first personal web page - siyempre all this was
new to me ('Net, web-page, mailing-lists), I excitedly posted
to a mailing list (RP-Internet ata) that I had this so and so
web page and that they should view it - I rubbed some people
the wrong way - some of them 'tagged' me as 'mayabang'. Not
my intention - it was just out of excitement, I should have
watch what I wrote.
BTW, before all this happened (Andy's posts and the succeeding
flamings) I read this series of articles; One of them said
that Linux fanatics were intolerant of those who opppose their
views - and calls those people trolls. The article also said
that Linux fanatics lived in a fantasy world - where they
are up against some Evil Empire (MS) and that they were out
to free the world from this Evil Empire.

Oh, well - just wanted to share my views. Besides like I
said I'm nobody here, and the mailing list belongs to Q-Linux,
so I guess what Q-Linux wants Q-Linux gets to do.
BTW, I'm using Hotmail and am in Windows 98. Hotmail has
served me well these past few years and as does Windows 98.
Both these products are from Microsoft. Linux zealots here
might be considering banning me from the list too? But I do
use Linux too - in work and at one time in service to PLUG
(I made the 1999(?) version of the PLUG web site using Linux
and Open-source tools).
Respectfully,
Joshua L. San Juan
