Not to cause a great divide, as Linux distro selection depends on the user. It depends on the user's preferences to choose the distribution that is apt for him/her. In short, there might be popular Linux distributions, but there is no best Linux distributor nor distribution, as each have their own strengths, weaknesses, quirks et. al. It's the beauty of free software - everyone has the freedom to choose - something that some other "company" would want to suppress to monopolize the world. just my observations on current distro trends of big commercial, non-local Linux distributions, but they are not meant to be authoritative nor to troll: If I'll base popularity on money earned, I'd say RedHat and SuSE. If on contributions to the improvement of the Linux kernel, maybe RedHat, SuSE. For those who like lean distros, I think Debian and Slackware are very popular (Debian is non-commercial, I don't know about the case of Slackware) For newbies, maybe Mandrake and Redhat. In terms of most number of users, I've got no idea. No idea on industry-wide analysis. --paolo __________________________________ www.edsamail.com _ Philippine Linux Users Group.
