PHILIPPINE LINUX USERS GROUP

Proposed Formation of PLUG Committees

Mission/Vision:

To promote and advocate the use of Linux and Open
Source Software in the Philippines as a viable
alternative to proprietary and commercial software.

Note on PLUG Committees:

Each committee will be headed by a duly-elected member
of the Board of Directors.  Committees are required to
have _regular_ physical or online(IRC) meetings.

1.  Advocacy/Outreach Committee

        a.  it shall initiate and coordinate
activities and events to introduce Linux to
communities, government institutions, NGOs,
educational institutions, and office workplaces
        b.  it shall be the main point-of-contact for
PLUG in outreach work and new contacts
        c.  it shall coordinate with other PLUG
committees to harness the organization's resources to
conduct advocacy and outreach activities

2.  Membership Committee

        a.  it shall ensure that each and every PLUG
member willing to be active in the organization be
assigned to working committees of the organization
        b.  it shall collect membership fees and dues
for turnover to the finance committee
        c.  it shall be responsible for organizing and
implementing monthly or bi-monthly advocacy and/or
technical meetings as a regular activity for the
organization
        d.  it shall be the primary committee
responsible in assisting in building PLUG chapters and
SIGs all over the Philippines in coordination with
initial activities of the outreach committee
        e.  it shall coordinate with other PLUG
committeess to gather the organization's resources to
conduct its activities
        f.  it shall maintain a list of individual
professional Linux and Open Source consultants. This
list will be made available to the community

3.  Training/Education Committee

        a.  it shall formulate an affordable and
inexpensive Linux community-based training curriculum
for beginners and for those unfamiliar with Linux and
Open Source Software
        b.  it shall undertake the production and
affordable distribution of printed hardcopies and
electronic versions of Linux and Open Source
literature, Linux Documentation Project documents,
HOWTOS, guides and pertinent Linux educational
materials to members and the community
        c.  it shall facilitate Linux and Open Source
book exchanges and distro exchanges among members
during regular monthly or bi-monthly technical
meetings or presentations
        d.  it shall organize and maintain a volunteer
group of trainors for its training activities and also
maintain a working pool of resource speakers for
outreach activities and monthly or bi-monthly
technical presentations

4.  Logistics/Finance Committee

        a.  it shall be the main committee responsible
for implementing fundraising activities, and obtaining
financial and material donations and grants to finance
the organization's various projects and activities
        b.  it shall assist other committees in
procuring venues and and computer equipment and
accessories for PLUG events and activities by
harnessing the resources available to individual PLUG
members
        c.  it shall collect membership dues and fees
gathered by the membership committee
        d.  it shall disburse funds for the
organization's activities and maintain an auditable
financial record of transactions for the organization
        e.  it shall issue regular financial report
and status to the Board of Directors and PLUG
membership

5.  Special Projects Committee

        a.  it shall undertake special projects and
tasks not covered by other PLUG committees (i.e.
Project with ASTI-DOST to formulate a standardized
Linux distro for government environment)
        b.  it shall implement projects duly approved
by the Board of Directors
