hi,

i missed the original post on the VIA mb--mdk8.1 problem. anyway, mandrake
has a new savage4 driver at their errata page. download it from there - there
is also an instruction on how to replace your old driver.

if you can't initially start your savage4, choose the old xfree (3.3.6) when
prompted which one you want to use (4.1 or 3.3.6) - that will allow you to
start your system. then install the new driver and switch to xfree4.1

i encountered the same problem on an all-in-one via board and was using
xfree3.3.6 for a while until i got the new driver.
