Forget about installing it.  I'm serious.

I would strongly suggest that you ditch the FTP server completely, or
leave it at anonymous-only download if that's what you want.
Non-anonymous FTP is very dangerous in today's world, as it performs
authentication without cryptography, which is a complete joke.  As I
have said over and over, FTP is a relic of a time when the Internet was
a research network where everyone could trust everyone else.  This goes
as much for a private network as it does for the Internet, as insecure
habits in one environment can carry over to others without your noticing
it at once.

Instead, I suggest you set up SSH and use SCP and SFTP.  You'll at least
have some solid cryptography to cover your ass while you perform
authentication.
