What: BSA Truce Campaign - "Go ICT, Stop Software Piracy"
When: March 16 - April 30, 2002

Salient points are as follows:

1. NO RAIDS will be conducted during the truce period. 
2. BSA will get in touch with 15,000 end users and encourage them to check their 
software requirements and go "legal"
3. BSA will conduct SOftware Asset Management (SAM) seminars in key cities around the
country (please see the sked below)
4. Enforcement will commence at the end of the truce period - MAY 1. 

This means that the BSA in coordination with the NBI will conduct search and seizure 
operations on endusers AND resellers using unlicensed software.

BSA has announced a TRUCE campaign starting March 16 to April 30, 
2002.

Go ICT, Stop Software Piracy Campaign
BSA Campaign for the Philippines

The Go ICT, Stop Software Piracy is a truce campaign launched on March 15. The 
campaign aims to promote the development of the ICT sector through the protection of 
intellectual property rights. The following are the organizations and agencies that 
supported the campaign:

-Association of the Government Internal Auditors (AGIA)
-Business Software Alliance (BSA)
-Chief Information Officers Forum, Inc. (CIO Forum)
-Digital Philippines
-Government Organization for IT (GO-IT)
-Information Technology and E-commerce Council (ITEC)
-Information Technology Association of the Philippines (ITAP)
-Information Technology Foundation of the Philippines (ITFP) 
-Institute of Internal Auditors of the Philippines (IIA-P)
-Intellectual Property Foundation (IPF)
-Intellectual Property Office (IPO)
-Philippine Computer Society (PCS)
-Philippine Internet Service Organization (PISO)
-Philippine Software Association (PSA)

The truce will run from March 16 to April 30, 2002.

During this period, BSA will temporarily cease enforcement action against companies 
who are reported to the BSA hotline for using illegal and unlicensed 
software. 

BSA will employ a variety of communication efforts to inform the public about the 
"truce" campaign. 

-Around 15,000 companies all over the Philippines will hear directly from the BSA who 
will encourage companies to check and legalize their software, and also register their 
compliance with BSA.

-BSA will be holding software asset management seminars (SAM seminar) in key cities of 
the country. The seminar aims to encourage companies 
to adopt a good software practice within their business premises. The following is the 
schedule of the seminars:

--April 16, 2002 - Mandaue City, Waterfont Hotel
--April 17, 2002 - Davao City, Marco Polo Hotel 
--April 18, 2002 - Makati City, New World Renaissance Hotel 

BSA representatives will conduct a sample survey of companies who have received BSA 
information about SAM. BSA telemarketers will be  ready to answer questions concerning 
the Go ICT campaign as well as the SAM seminars.

Aside from this, BSA has dedicated an email address for those who have queries on the 
campaign. The email address is

Enforcement activities will commence at the end of the truce period, on 1st May 2002. 
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) with  support and assistance from BSA will 
conduct search and seizure operations against companies who continue to use unlicensed 
software after the truce  period isover. BSA expects increased numbers of calls to the 
anti-piracy  hotline operated by BSA and its members during the truce period.
