Hello eric! This much I remember about dial-up connections: 1. a 56k modem cannot connect at 56k, because of the nature of the connection, the maximum speed one can connect at is only 53k 2. even with a 56k modem and a 56k connection (hardware) to your ISP, if your line is "dirty" (ie analog) then your modem will only connect at 33.6k
