Not only that, but Linux machines almost always have mostly very idle

Personally, I would call that one of the minor arguments.

You will probably get poor connection quality and a high incidence of
dropped carrier.  And you're obliged to run proprietary binary-only code
in kernelspace in order to achieve even that much.
