we did the best we could do to lower the price. we sent a guy last year and we spent a fortune on his training including airfare and accomodation. initially we were quite skeptical because everything can be learned from books(hacking exposed series), web and mailing lists. but it paid off. the guy was a unix network/security admin for 6 years and for 4 days, he was able to cover so many things in so little time.

we were planning to send another guy this year and people from our foreign partners suggested to do it locally. from the original $4000 tag price, we were able to get it to $2500 - with the help of our sponsors, Siemens and Stonesoft. some guys in the local circles knows a lot about this stuff (probably even more) but the courses offered by such companies (ultimate hacking/extreme hacking) have been around for years and they've been constantly updated. these guys are really good (not just a marketing hype), they've been contributors in the open-source community for the last 5-10 years (BSDs/SNORT) and affiliated  with recognized security organizations such as AusCert, SANS and i believe both of them are CISA.

even though we are co-organizing this with eSec but with that price, honestly we're only sending one guy. just one. hope to see some of you in there..

I second the motion. What do these guys know that our locals
dont know. This is the kind of event that many (including
myself) would love to volunteer.

WOW!!!

I downloaded the pdf file and I liked what I saw except
the PRICE!!!!
$2,500.00 !!! @#$%^&*@#$%$^&&*&!!!

multiply that by fifty and you have PHP125,000.00

That's almost half a year's salary!!!

Which got me to thinking, why don't some of our local
security
guru's(orly,dido,vince,etc.) get together and offer a
similar course at
the fraction of the cost!!! =) I can even probably help
with the venue.

Comments and suggestions are welcome.
