What is the least config for a server for LTSP?
Hello Rommel, I do have a LTSP setup but I still have 3 workstations and I really can't conclude right away because I haven't tried 30 workstations or more yet. But based on what I've read and personal experiences of my co-LTSP users from the west (especially Jim), a dual-processor of at least Intel Pentium III 500Mhz and not less than 1GB RAM (the higher memory the better) is good enough for 30 to 40 workstations all running Netscape/Mozilla web browsers, StarOffice 5.2, and other desktop applications. You may want to use switch rather than a hub to eliminate collission of data that is being sent (broadcast) by the server. If you want the workstations to be able to connect to the Internet, it is highly recommended that you will have a separate firewall box for your LTSP setup. Lastly, if you're going to make all of your workstations using X by default, it is highly recommended that you will use high memory for your video cards of your workstations. HTH. --- MARVIN T.
