I wonder how well will Firebird 2.0 be considering that they're going to start using C++ for it. That something as featureful as Interbase can be written in C speaks volumes about the effectiveness of the old school (IIRC, the earliest versions were even written in PDP assembler!) minimalist programming style. I really really hope I'm wrong... but my fear is that Firebird 2.0 will be bloated, buggy and a PITA to maintain. (Check the Firebird 1.0 source code write now... it is so readable... the same of which cannot be said of C++ source in general). If only they'd consider using Free or GNU Pascal for it (but of course this would mean having to translate all the C code to Pascal first). _ Philippine Linux Users Group.
