He may find development frustrating, might be too slow -- I have a 266MHz AMD
K6-2 with 128MB of RAM and a 7200rpm IDE133 Maxtor (yeah, Rick, I know that
doesn't mean much ;) and it takes over an hour to compile my FreeBSD kernel (I
think -- have to do it again so I'll check next time I do it). Granted, he's not
likely to routinely compile his kernel -- w/c could take the whole day on such a
config -- but it does give you some idea of how much time he'll spend.

Actually, maybe just about any distro, even the newer ones. He just shouldn't
expect X to be zippy.
