If it is cheap enough and you use it only for displaying remote X applications then 
you will only have to worry about your drive conking out but not losing your data.

BTW, anybody know of a small linux distro that is specifically for remote X displays? 
Is there a distro for Flash ROM IDEs? How small is it?
