Use solaris if you are using Sun hardware and use Linux if you are using 
PC hardware. Most likely even if you are using Solaris, you would be using 
GNU software on it, the advantage is the performance of the Solaris OS on 
the Sun hardware over Linux on the same Sun hardware.
