(visit > http://www.revolution-os.com) I read "Just for Fun" by Linus Torvalds, and nowhere in that autobiography did he mention that Linux was created in rebellion against Microsoft. Initially, he was writing a terminal emulator so that he can use his home PC to connect to the university Unix system, but the terminal emulator eventually turned into a full-blown OS which was better than Minix. That Linux became a threat to Microsoft is just a happy coincidence. Also there was a big debate on the use of the name "Linux" vs "GNU/Linux" but that is a totally different issue altogether.
