I am using a client/server software that can distribute video on a network
(100MB LAN). It's a kind of a remote survellance type (as in I can have
real-time video of my office if I am connected on the LAN). Dial-up
connection works as well but of course you should expect delay. It is a
tcp/ip-based video server written in C/C++ where multiple clients connect
to receive video. I have two client software, one written in Java and the
other one in C/C++. Image resolution supported: 320 x 240 gray scale
although it is easy to make few adjustments for other resolution and pixel
type. You must have a video grabber and camera to get images. Your kernel
must have video4linux installed (well if you installed your linux with
your frame grabber connected, video4linux should be there and you can get
images from /dev/video). Let me know if you are interested. I am thinking
of updating my code soon to support multicast to make video distribution
more efficient.
