Unfortunately, it seems that OpenOffice.org has no equivalent to MS 
'Normal.dot" What I did was open a blank document, adjust all the settings to 
suit myself, then go File-->Templates-->Save and give it the name of Default. 
then File-->Templates-->Organize and select the new template, Commands-->Set 
as Default. Then, whenever I open a new document, it opens with that template 
and all the settings I made are available.
