I do not know how good they are, but there's OAV from the
OpenAntivirus[1] project, which is written in Java, and ClamAV[2] which
is written in C and is POSIX compliant, using the OAV data files. These
should work with AMaViS[3] or some generic "scanner interface" for MTAs.

Unfortunately I do not know, and it seems neither do most PLUGgers, how
good OAV and/or ClamAV are vis a vis the other commercial scanners, like
perhaps McAfee uvscan, Kaspersky-Labs AV, Sophos Sweep, or F-Prot, to
name a few that have UNIX versions.

You asked for a free antivirus program, but if you're willing to spend a
little for a commercial one like these, they should work with either
AMaViS (in the case of at least McAfee uvscan and Sophos Sweep), or with
the popular MTAs directly (in the case of at least Kaspersky-Labs AV).

You may also get help from previous discussions on the topic. Our
searchable archives[4] should help you in this area, and when it
doesn't, there's the more generic Google[5].

The best of luck. :)
