but what about games (counter-strike, warcraft or redalert) would there be
also slowdown on a hub than on a switch?

surfing the net both download and upload ... none... because of the same
pipe (56kbps)... but on the local network, it is very negligible or doesnt
affect at all due to 56kbps pipe pumping in and out of 10 mbps pipe even at
collision prone hub... but go for the switch... switches are cheaper
nowadays...
