Yes, it is possible, and it's been done. There are a lot of mail
scanning utilities -- like AMaViS or MailScanner, to name a few -- that
interface with file-sweeping type anti-virus programs like McAfee
uvscan, Sophos sweep, or the like. Alternatively you can get anti-virus
programs that run as daemons and interface with the MTA directly. This
is obviously a more optimal solution for high-traffic mail gateways, but
comes with a higher price tag.

archives[2] to find out more. Feel free to get hints and use the
keywords in the previous paragraph to help you with your query.
