It would be much faster indeed if you had a switched ethernet environment
and you copy the cd contents into a servers hard drive, share the
directory via nfs, and install from there.  For redhat/mandrake, they have
in the 'images' directory of the cd an image of a network install disk,
which you can dump into a floppy (maybe even several floppies), and boot
simultaneously for a parallel install.

Then you have to have a very big /var file system which is the location
where inn places its news feeds.  Use reiserfs for the /var file system,
Reiser is good in managing lots of small files... \8)
