You probably want the sleep command, as in:

    $ sleep 30

to sleep for 30 seconds, or

    $ sleep 1.5m
    $ sleep 0.49d

or something like that. Unfortunately

    $ sleep 1d2h3m

doesn't work. However you can always convert to:

    $ sleep 93780
    $ sleep 1563m
    $ sleep 26.05h
    $ sleep 1.0854167d

For more information check out the sleep(1) manual page:

    $ man sleep

Those wanting to check to see how accurate sleep is may use time:

    $ time sleep 5

    real    0m5.012s
    user    0m0.000s
    sys     0m0.010s

But then that's quite contrived, eh? Okay okay, I'll go back and study
(I have an exam on Saturday, and I wager the stress is showing). ;)

PS- this is a newbie question, I'm cc'ing that list.
