I concur. One of my few complaints about OS/2 is that the PATH grows with each package I install. At one point, my PATH env spanned three lines in my CONFIG.SYS, as did my DPATH and LIBPATH. I doubt it's much better for Windows, which I think hides its environment settings in the registry. Haven't had the courage to look at a Windows AUTOEXEC.BAT in a while. FWIW, here's my $PATH: /sbin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/games:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/root/bin Hmm, just realized I had /usr/games in there even if I don't have anything in it except for the hide directory. Safe to remove from $PATH? > variable. Slackware makes it very easy to pinpoint > which files belong to which package by putting all > the relevant info in /var/adm/packages.
