A "serial accelerator" will NOT speed up your connection. It's a "smart" 
serial board which has onboard buffering so it doesn't use CPU to handle 
lots of serial ports. As compared to a "dumb" multiport serial board which 
requires lots of CPU attention.

Besides those things cost $600 and up (for 4 ports).
