I recently installed ClamAV in our mail server, to scan all email beside
McAfee uvscan. I know I added overhead, but considering uvscan already
did a lousy job of being optimal, I figured the overhead of ClamAV
wouldn't hurt me too much (and it didn't). My real purpose in doing this
was to be able to evaluate ClamAV in a real world scenario. Every virus
alert I get now comes with the results of uvscan and clamscan.

Despite having updated oav datafiles I notice that ClamAV doesn't find
some new worms and viruses, like BugBear, for instance, which uvscan
finds. I'm very hopeful for both OAV and ClamAV, though. I hope the
development communities for both tools can keep up their work, and look
forward to the day when both OAV and ClamAV will be true alternatives to
commercial anti-virus programs.
