Hi there Doc, I regularly use a laptop (the company's, not mine) running RH7.2 to dialup into our office and into our clients' networks. I have never experienced the problem you described above. However, there was a ppp-related update released by RedHat for RH7.2: http://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHBA-2002-037.html One of the first things we do right after installing GNU/Linux on any box is to install pertinent updates. We've found autoupdate[1] to be really useful for RH boxes, and now we're exploring apt-rpm[2].
