what doesnt boot-up windows or linux? or both.
you might have a corrupted boot sector,

if you had win98 installed (dual-booted) you may want to try
booting from an "start-up" disk and repairing/reinstalling the mbr
ie. a:\fidisk /mbr
then you might want to reinstall the system (boot files) on your HD
ie. a:\sys c:
