I seem to remember someone asking about that on #linuxhelp, and a
Google turned up drivers. You appear to be lucky today. Indeed, a
www.google.com/linux search for sm56 looks quite helpful. =)

Joe User can continue using whatever Joe User likes - Macs, Windows,
even those spiffy new Redhat and Mandrake desktops. Joe User is likely
to never see the point of investing time and effort into learning how
to use the computer more efficiently. Still, that shouldn't stop those
of us who aren't Joe Users from exploring the computer more. <grin>

(Personally, I'm currently in favor of differentiating between people
who want to use the computer just as an appliance, and people who want
to do more with it. ;) Quite a few of the former are in computer
science for the money, it seems.)
