I'm just about to try the ac-patch for an old dual-CPU PII machine (afaik the ac- series fixes this - I'm keeping my fingers crossed just in case I blow it up...), but that's the least of my worries for now (it doesn't bite hard for now). Back to the original topic (verbose kernel messages), it shouldn't be as verbose as printk outputting to standard output rather than the logs when preemptive kernel is enabled (unless I screwed up when I hacked the source to resolve the .rej files produced during patching - which I think I really did).
