It won't be as bad an idea AS SHOUTING IN THE SUBJECT LINE OF YOUR

Why do you want to do that anyway? That shouldn't be necessitated, and
whatever makes it so classifies as a bug and should be fixed. That
aside, killing the pppd process at given intervals could disconnect
people online at the time, regardless of how long or short a time
they've been connected. I don't think it would do any more harm than
that.
