Macs could've been competition if they can only run on cheap Intel hardware. DOS and Windows were responsible (I think) for the mass acceptance of Intel hardware. I'm not sure though... > if they're so smart, then why dont their OSes improve on the parts which > make it crash a lot? sure u'd say its for technical support, but then > hey, that doesnt mean they're one step ahead of the competition. Business strategy. You pay more for stability. You pay more for security. That keeps the cash flowing into Redmond. The mere existence of such "solutions" in the market is a topic more appropriate in the realm of psychology or marketing rather than IT, to put it wryly :-). Oh well... so much for all those talk about software engineering and the lot... So unless your clientele aren't the picky ones (e.g. the military, some government agencies), a technically-inferior product would pass and be accepted by the masses simply because it runs on hardware the masses can afford. -- Paolo Alexis Falcone [EMAIL PROTECTED] _ Philippine Linux Users Group.
