Elky, are you trolling, or are you serious? Quoting Elky Grrrr... ([EMAIL PROTECTED]):
> how come microsoft always has the top of the line software, they have > the best browser.... Let's see: MSIE is a security disaster. It badly fails to implement W3C standards correctly. It has an unmanageable cookies implementation. It's bloated. It has the unmitigated gall to _advertise_ itself at the bottom of every page of Web page printouts. It has acceptable performance on Win32 platforms only with the help of privileged inside information on the OSes that is unavailable to competitors. And Microsoft wasn't even competent to _write_ it, in the first place: It's a modified form of Spyglass Mosaic, used under licence. Ye Gods, Elky! It's a terrible browser compared to, for example, Galeon. > ...the best office suite.... The last time Microsoft's "Office" applications _weren't_ a bloated mess was prior to Office 4.2. The document formats tend to auto-corrupt, and are virus-prone. They're a technological debacle. For Linux options, you might want to have a look at http://linuxmafia.com/wpfaq/future.html#ALTERNATIVES > ...and hmmmm oh a good media player that actually works!!! Their Windows Media Player was so bad compared to Apple QuickTime that Microsoft actually bargained with Apple to get some limited rights to the technology. I can't remember many details, but those shouldn't be difficult to find. On Linux, you might want to have a look at MPlayer and Xine. Oh yeah? Where is the MS-Windows equivalent of The GIMP? That is, where's there a graphics package with something as powerful as script-fu? Where's there an MS-Windows Web browser as good as Galeon (that's not a port from Linux, e.g. Kameleon). And where did you get the notion that Microsoft actually invented practically anything it sells? Essentially everything they have that's any good at all is either copied from someone more competent or, more commonly, bought when Microsoft acquired the company. > so stop the bitching about windows please. Seems to me you're the one trying to argue about this. Bill Gates is a great geek.... He is? What did he ever write that was any good? My recollection is that the only thing he has part-author credit on was Altair BASIC in 1975, and that wasn't particularly good -- and its originality is disputed. I should know: I was there at the time. http://linuxmafia.com/~rick/linux-info/altair-basic -- Cheers, "Reality is not optional."
