this is very possible in my opinion. and i also think that members of
the mailing list could be the pioneers in taking linux from the hands of
those who just want to experiment on their computers to the grassroots
level - the comsci students, the computer enthusiasts, and the like.

this could be done in cooperation with the universities around the
Philippines to promote open source software, and not only Linux as is.
there is already a growing trend in the people interested in linux which
starts from IT learning centers that offer short courses and even full
programs for computer learning that include linux.

at the same time as taking linux to the grassroots, some of the
professionals _could_ also be swayed from the proprietary software realm
towards the trends of open source it there were more visible
linux+business related affairs such as corporate trade shows, seminars,
symposia, etc.

maybe the more senior pluggers could organize some things to this
effect, because the practical implications of using open source over
proprietary software are very much appreciated today. ;)

and yes, it does help to be a zealot in pioneering endeavors such as
these IMHO. ;)
