"Slackware package" is the usual usage.  You just have to trust to
people to realise that it's not just a bare tarball, but has Slackware
metadata in it.  Serendipitously, though, those who don't realise that
can still use the package as if it _were_ just a tarball, by ignoring
the metadata.

My recollection is that ".tgz" is just a workaround to allow DOS/Windows's 
lame filetyping to work more-or-less correctly.
