Hello:

There is greater awareness now among Filipinos about the possibilities of LINUX. Its
advocates are no longer considered strange denizens by the rest of the country's ICT
community and even the ICT-enabled community.
This is a long way from as recent as 1997 when LINUX was unheard of by Filipino ICT
users and considered only for the very techies among the few in the country who had
heard of it.
What's going to happen two years from now? It's hard to say. But there is certainly a
growing band of early adopters to the system.
What could act as chief driver is the moral high ground LINUX currently holds.
This is all I can say as a technology journalist but not a tech-savvy person as most
of you in this newsgroup are. BTW, Gerry Plaza was a former officemate of mine at
Philippine IT Update. In fact, it was he who recruited me into it when this paper was
still in the planning stages way back in 1996.
That time, our publisher considered LINUX as an exotic system. Now, he appreciates its
potentials and the challenge it poses to the Gates empire.
Merry Christmas to you all.
Sincerely,
Ike
