We're setting up a Linux clustering system with a client that insists on using SuSE Linux for setup. Unfortunately the version of SuSE they provided (7.1) is so old that it uses a 2.4.0 or 2.2.18 kernel, and support for the hardware we are trying to install it on (Compaq ProLiant DL580) is highly spotty to say the least. It can't detect the Compaq SmartArray 5i SCSI RAID controller integrated on the server, or even the network cards (a Broadvision Tigon3-compatible gigabit ethernet and one of those el cheapo generic RTL8139-based 10/100 PCI ethernets). Oddly enough, it does properly detect our Qlogic FibreChannel card.
We obtained an evaluation CD of SuSE 8.1 from somewhere in Greenhills just to test if the hardware works, and well it works like a charm by comparison. Now we're in the unpleasant situation of downloading SuSE 8.1 via the network, and it's taking a terribly long amount of time. Our DSL connection is crawling these days. So my question now is: does anyone out there have SuSE Linux distribution CDs (7.2 or later)? Redhat works out of the box too, but as they say, the customer is always right...
