i don't think this is really off-topic anyway :) i think this decision is justified because in truth, it's really hard to monitor all releases. just like what this article said, red hat can better focus their efforts on supporting active versions of the OS. while this sounds "micro$oftish" to some, the benefit of open source is that you are not dependent on one entity (e.g. red hat) to issue you security advisories and upgrades/patches. just the same, you can just go to the main web site of the errant package and download/compile it yourself. some hobbyists may even dedicate a little of their time to constructing RPMs for older releases. /dre _ Philippine Linux Users Group.
