should that be -i eth0 instead?  since eth0 is the interface that is facing
the internet.

do you have a host on the internet, and can you telnet to port 25 or
port 110 from there?  if you post the IP number to talk to, maybe
someone on the list (maybe even me) could do the telnet
test.
