-- Gnubies --

1. I shall be more grateful in thanking those who help me with my problems and
always be respectful and kind to oldbies. I shall never think that graphical
user interface (GUI) people have any superior advantage over command-line
interface (CLI) people.

2. I shall always strive to read the howto's and manual pages. man <command>
and info <command> can sometimes work wonders and save bandwidth.

3. I shall always refrain from asking questions indiscriminately. I shall
always remember to visit -- http://marc.free.net.ph -- first before asking.

4. I shall always recognize that Google is the best guide to finding
information. I shall continually strive to learn how to separate true
information from crap.

-- Oldbies --

5. I shall always strive not to engage in flamefest, name-calling, or ad
hominem attacks against anyone in any mailing list. I shall always look
openly at the opinions of others and humbly accept my mistakes when they are
brought to my attention. I shall never think that command-line interface
(CLI) people have any superior advantage over graphical user interface (GUI)
people. I shall always assist gnubies with a guiding and respectful hand.

6. I shall always trim quoted messages to the point of brevity. I shall always
remember that conserving disk space on the mailing list server archives will
also conserve power and backup-times, thus ultimately contribute to a greener
environment in the long run.

7. I shall continuously strive to keep my workstations and *nix-like servers
free from deadly viruses, knowing that my *nix-like servers also caters to
workstations installed with a hugely successful but inferior operating
system. I shall use my *nix-like servers to help protect the workstations
with inferior operating system in the best way I can.

8. I shall always strive to keep my workstations and *nix-like servers clean
from spam messages, p0rn, pirated software, and other data junk.

9. I am morally responsible to practice secure and safe computing. I shall
always help point out and plug security holes. I shall keep confidential
information that was entrusted to my server as though I am guarding my very
own life.

10. I shall always endeavor to use my *nix-like servers as conduits of
information instead of crap, solidarity instead of terrorism, love instead of
hate. I shall always keep in mind that computers are tools to render service
for the ultimate goodness and betterment of mankind.

Happy Gnu Year everyone!
