thats the basic misunderstanding for class B private ip address netmask...
they thought that /16 or 255.255.0.0 as the implied netmask... same goes
also with class C private ip address that the implied netmask is /24 or
255.255.255.0...

/12 or 255.240.0.0 netmask, still the total hosts for this class B ip
address is 2^(32-12) - 2 or 1048574 hosts..
