you get those errors when someone calls your dial-up number from a phone unit instead
of a modem.
i'll need more info from your error logs. edit your mgetty.config file and use "debug
9". mail back the logged errors. your ppp daemon may also be the issue (RedHat's ppp
rpm < 2.4.1-3 had a bug that took them a long time to squash. I had to use Mandrake's
ppp during that time for the dial-in to work.)
