The problem - I'm running some desktops remotely via a display manager (gdm). Other users would want to default to 800x600 (e.g. my mom and dad), while others would want to default to 1024x768 (e.g. me). Is it possible to configure X in such a way that users would get the default resolution they want (without explicitly switching the resolution); that is, the resolution is local only for a particular user (as XF86Config is for global settings)? --
