This was extensively discussed in the KDE Usability mailing lists a few weeks
back. Indeed, there is no source code yet. The author of Slicker is not a
coder, but he does have plenty of neat ideas and usability improvements. In
fact, his GUI design is really unique, and majority of those who saw the
screenshots somehow knew this is the look and functionality that will make
the Linux desktop take off in a good direction away from copying Windoze's
and Macintosh's look & feel.

IMHO, this is the crucial missing piece of the look for KDE. If the Slicker
project is completed, it will intuitively complement the Crystal icon set.
The icons have been taken into a whole new direction by superb designer
Everaldo with his Crystal icon set. His icons are now being redesigned as SVG
icons, which will make it more faster and infinitely resizable in any
resolution, since the icons are vector-based, not pixel-based graphics.

Themes like Mosfet's Liquid and Keramik look like ripoffs of Aqua and XP
interfaces, respectively. The Slicker theme is elegant and unique in its own
right.

I've read from the discussion that the slicker project is a whole new KDE
kicker reorganization and reimplementation. Some developers are lining up for
this, and some are optimistic they can do this in the KDE 4.0 series since
the KDE 3.2 developer branch is nearing freeze status. The slicker project
will entail some KParts reorganization and component overhaul, but it is
doable. The advantages of the object-oriented C++ components in KDE makes
this work easier, compared to the stiff equivalents in Gnome.

A KPart project is in the works for slicker. Here's the link:

Long ago, people taught that Linux developers only care about themselves and
people who knew the intricacies of the shell. Not anymore. The Slicker
project and Crystal icons clearly shows that open-source can design GUI
interfaces better (and for free!) than the expensive interface-design
departments of established proprietary software companies.
