I wonder how the "unsanitized" or "in-your-face" version of his letter reads
like. It must have been very interesting. Damn the torpedoes. :-)

Quotes from the article:

>"Stop looking over your shoulder and invent something!" Stutz said in the
>letter.

Yeah right!

Ballmer frequently touts XML as the fundamental building block on which to
push their client, server, and device strategies. XML is an open standard,
Dear Ballmer, and not your innovation. Sorry. We still sense your
"not-invented-here" paradigm mindset. If you think you can mangle XML
standards like what you did to Java, sorry. Not this time, big boys. "David"
finally has the open-source slingshot that can slay a "Goliath" right between
the eyes.

There have been talks of Yukon's XML-enabled databases and filesystems. If
Microsoft gets this car out of the garage, are we sure car thieves aren't
able to break inside this car? Everytime Microsoft rolls a new model, car
thieves love the "ease" of breaking inside.

>He also warned, "Recovering from current external perceptions of Microsoft as
>a paranoid, untrustworthy, greedy, petty, and politically inept organization
>will take years."

Ouch! Will you trust your crown jewels again to a corporation that turned out
to be a robber baron? A mirror once broken can never be made whole again.
<Sigh>

>Surprisingly, Microsoft said it agrees with much of Stutz's vision of the
>future.

It's not surprising they do agree, instead, they're scared stiff! This scared
paranoia leads to even more convoluted paranoid business practices that
further alienates their loyal customers, like Licensing version 6. Open
Source and Free Software are poised to erode them, and they're scared out of
their wits by scaring their customers with scary licensing. Poor Microsoft.

This must be "Scary Movie Part 3 - The Hauntings of Redmondville."

>"Microsoft is in agreement with much of the position that David has of the

Huh? If indeed they do come up with a breakthrough technology, will it be
priced right? Will it be safe and secure from viruses and cracking? (Me
scratches dandruff.)

>Retiring Microsoft executives commonly write letters about what they believe

Hope someone inside Microsoft leaks out the unsanitized version. :-)

Isn't this the whole thrust of the .NET framework? Is David Stutz saying .NET
is a failure? (Me scratches dandruff again.)

>One-size-fits-all, one-app-is-all-you-need, one-API-and-damn-the-torpedoes
>has turned out to be an imperfect strategy for the long haul."

David Stutz might as well realize this: "One-vendor for all apps, one funnel
of all profits to Microsoft. One Windows to roll-out, one Windows to bind
them all". Sounds like "Mordo" from the "Lord of the Rings" to me.
