Hi! i am one of the many who downloaded your pre-compiled Gnome-2.2 for
Slackware 8.1 packages. i noticed after installation that it added fam
on my /etc/inetd.conf and a new service running on port 668. is this the
port where fam listens to? remotely or local only? i noticed also that
after doing /etc/rc.d/rc.K then /etc/rc.d/rc.M, will change the port
randomly. i did this twice and got port 942 and 660 listening
respectively but will stick to port 668 once rebooted. just want to know
if it's secure to run fam. and what would happen if i disabled it.
btw, i've googled on port 668 and found out that it's a trojan named
th3r1pp3rz (= Therippers) running on windows. just wondering why they're
using the same port. and oh, nessus wasn't able to determine
specifically the apps binding to that port also. no security note or
whatsoever.
